Alexis Toft

Head of Minerva, Minerva Business Angels

Presently the head of Minerva Business Angels, the largest traditional Business Angel network in the UK and the fastest growing which part of the University of Warwick Science Park Ltd.

Alex held senior commercial roles while working for Unilever across Europe, Asia and Latin America. He both founded and ran businesses in Latin and Central America while based in Brazil and then again East Asia Pacific Rim when expatriated to Indonesia. A former senior executive and Board member in ICI and INEOS and through a process of serendipity he invented a drug that led to a multinational biotech. The biotech grew from 3 people to an organisation working across 23 countries and in 250 hospitals. As part of this development, he raised £74mn and later disposed of the company..

In 2011 he joined the Air Ambulance Service and launched the national Children’s Air Ambulance. The first time critically ill children in intensive care were moved by a dedicated air ambulance, then road ambulance, between units across the UK. After a stint running part of Public Health Wales, Alex joined the University of Warwick supporting SMEs before taking up his current role. Published in various scientific journals, he was also awarded an honorary Senior Lectureship in Clinical Medicine and the Potts Medal by the University of Liverpool for his contribution to Science.

The holder of 10 patents, a degree in Chemistry, MBA, Llb and Master of Law, Alex is a key promoter of lifelong learning throughout your career and has considerable hands on legal experience.
